Rated 3 out of 5 by CS5062EE from The Good is Really Good, The Bad Is Really Bad The sad thing about the following is that I have used Fluke meters for decades with great results til now. I rented a 435-II for product performance tests on a 480V Delta system. Meter setup and hookup were simple, data looked good. Then I downloaded the data to Excel and found it was worthless- which may have killed a $200k project, cost $$$ to do, and must be repeated. Every data set was missing crucial values- different ones every time. (See data images) True power showed the totals but no per-phase data. Apparent power totals were usually correct, but only C-A phase data appeared- or none. All 3 phases of reactive power were recorded, but one phase sometimes went negative, which the meter dutifully used to calculate the wrong total. This sometimes happened with amps and power factor. This was not a setup problem. One practical matter- be careful what you download to Excel. I downloaded everything the first time, including Min, Max, Average & Status, and had a spreadsheet with over 2,400 columns, most of which had zero values.

We purchased this unit about 1 year ago anticipating that it would be used mostly for calibration testing and harmonic distortion investigations. But, since then the Fluke 434 has saved the day several times when various vendors (specifically our UPS vendor & our generator vendor) start pointing fingers at each other making accusations that would normally be un-provable without extensive on-site vendor support. With the Fluke 434 we were able to quash claims of generator overshoot, and incorrect phasing from the UPS vendors. And also clearly document power anomalies and transient UPS output distortion due to massive spikes emanating from the local grid. The Fluke 434 has proven to be invaluable not only in the laboratory environment but in the real world of customer support as well.

We recently had issues with performance of a system when full power output was reached. Using our Fluke 434, we were able to collect power quality information such as voltage and current harmonics, and AC waveform distortion, and used this to work with the PV inverter manufacturer to solve the problem. This is a great tool to have at our disposal.
