Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Easy to Use I purchased the generator after loosing power in Hurricane Irene. The set up was very easy. I had to untangle the gas hose to get it to start. Once it started it ran great. The first few times I shut the gas off and let the generator turn off. Every time I did this it was hard to restart the generator. I then manually shut down the generator and just turned off the gas switch. The next time I started the generator it started on the first try. I hooked up the generator to our electrical panel and it performed better than anticipated. I have not had to use the generator in an emergency yet but who know what will happen with Hurricane Sandy on her way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Outstanding generator! Purchased back in Feb 2011 and have not had a reason to use it until today, smack in the middle of Hurricane Irene. Going in to the weekend, I made sure the batttery was charged up. It kicked-over with no problem, plugged it in, threw the xfer switches, and it got me through a 7-hour power outage, in the middle of pouring rain and 40+ mph winds, with all the comforts of home ..TV, fridge, internet, grinder pump, and most importantly, my instant coffee machine! Even under full load, it barely went above 2 bars on the power meter. Highly recommended!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Easy to get up and running. Great for first time owners. When its cold outside and you have no electricity is no time for hard to follow instructions. Everything you need to get it running is in the box. The instructions are simple and to the point. I didn't even install the battery. I filled the engine with oil, put gas in the tank, took a quick look at start up instructions, and pulled the start rope once and had power. That's when I looked at it and thought, it also looks good. It was running in 15 minutes. OK so I put the wheels on the next morning. It ran for 24 hours, added gas once. If you need power quick this is IT. I already my home wired to hook up gen. so you will need that plan ahead. Very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Almost Perfect! Great generator, I have my refigerator, freezer, well and septic systems on a smaller 5KW unit then the XG powers everything else in my house AND an in-law apartment with no problem whatsoever. If I had one very small critism, it's that the battery doesn't charge from the generator while it's running unless you plug the charger into one of the generator outlets but.. I just make a point of charging the battery once a month to keep it topped off and the Generac fires up first time every time! Nice product, well designed, very solidly built. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, well made unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from What I expect from Generac So far so good! I am upgrading from a 12 year old XP 4000 for more wattage. The old one worked well, and I am expecting the same from the XG 8000. Pros: I like the covered outlets and the controls all on one side. I bought from a dealer; the tech who delivered was polite and knowledgeable. It started right away and we hooked it up to my transfer panel; everything worked as it should. The oil change tube should make it easy. Cons:The battery charger cord should be at least twice as long. The button on the locking handle sticks; I'll try some lube oil. There is no easy way to drain the gas; should be a tube like the oil change tube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Very impressed with excellent practical features.. Decided to Purchase my XG8000E following a major Ice storm in December 2013 where power was not restored for 4 days. Chose Generac following much research by my Son who had already ordered the same model. Your excellent reviews were important factors in our choosing GENERAC. Installation was quickly and easily effected. However my unit could not start with regular gasoline. Start was instantaneous after replacing with newly purchased 91 Octane gasoline. Learned from my service dealer most Generators will not start in very cold temperatures. Temperature was - 28 Celcious when initially tried to start RECOMMEND ONLY 91 OCTANE BE USED IN VERY COLD WINTERS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from unit is great but.... I bought the unit after Irene. I have run it once a month for about year for about 20 minutes a month to keep it ready. In the summer I ran my whole house with Air Conditioners running 2 refrigerators, 2 freezers and a sump pump. No problem for the Generator The only problem I have is that I'm in the middle of Sandy and I'm one of the 10% on Long Island that has Power.I'd love to run it but waiting for the power to go off. Does anyone know how long she will run at 1/4 or so load? I think the run time may be longer than the manuel says. I strongly recommend this Generator. Its a Sweetie. I hope I get to use it in Sandy's aftermath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Saved our Family Reunion Hit with the derecho storm in SW Virginia at Smith Mountain Lake the Friday night before 15 relatives would show up at our home for a week of fun on the water, we lost power for what would be three days in 100+ degree heat. We hit Lowes first thing Saturday morning minutes after the store opened and were fortunate enough to grab the last, display model. Was easy to set up and use and five gallons of gas seemed to last almost a full day. The Generac generator literally saved our vacation by getting us through the first few days so we could enjoy the rest of the week when the power was restored. Awesome machine for years to come!
