A well-designed and constructed multi-use test
This was easy to use and well-designed! This Klein non-contact voltage tester with a built-in laser infrared thermometer has a lot of useful design features which will make it a go-to tool for testing voltage and temperature. I liked the design of the battery compartment in the body of the tester. Klein wen to the trouble of including a rubber O ring (see picture) to seal the battery compartment (it takes two AAA batteries). In my experience, Klein has always made a high quality tool, and this one certainly is high quality. The plastic case is very solid so this will take the usual wear and tear of being in a tool box or getting dropped frequently! It is very rugged. The laser function is good for testing temperature in hard to reach places, like inside an HVAC unit or heating/cooling pipes just out of reach but still within sight. The voltage testing part of this tool is an audio and visual display (not a digital readout), as explained in the 12 page fold-out instructions that come with the tester (see picture). I found it easy to use – just hold up the end of the tool to the circuit, and a fast red light blink (see picture) is high voltage (120V), and a slow red blink is low voltage (12V). The blue light indicates no voltage present (see picture). I highly recommend this tester because of its excellent design and high quality. It is a must-have tool!

This is a GREAT! addition to my electricians tool
This is a GREAT! addition to my electricians tool bag. It is small (6" long) and lightweight (3 oz). It comes with a sturdy pocket clip which allows you to carry it around in your front pocket. This small non-contact tester easily allows you to detect the presence of AC voltages in wires, sockets and switches. Bright LED lights and an audible alarm indicate if a wire is energized and whether it is less than 120v AC or greater than 120v AC. The detection range for AC is 12v to 1000v. The tester includes a non-contact infrared thermometer. Included is a built in red laser pointer for aiding in pointing the thermometer at the desired location. I measured the temperature of an ice cube and a pan of boiling water and found it measured pretty accurately.

Accurate and durable
Klein Tools has provided me with free product and additional incentives to provide an honest review of this product So I’ve been using this new Klein NCVT-4IR for about a month now and it’s pretty neat. Not only is it a non-contact voltage tester, but it’s also an infrared thermometer. And if you want to get technical, it’s also a laser pointer. I looked into getting an IR thermometer a few years back and it was a couple of hundred bucks. These are around 40 bucks. So far it’s worked fine. Obviously it doesn’t take the place of a meter, but to get a quick check of voltage on a wire or outlet, it has done its job well. I’ve even used it as a laser pointer once or twice. I can also say that I gave it the hardest test of all. I accidentally dropped it on to a hard quarry tile floor from a ladder at about 5 feet. It bounced twice, I had that sinking feeling in my stomach when it hit. I picked it up and it worked fine. #kleintools #kleincrusaders
